this project was the most recent one, in fact i did it this summer
in summary, it was definitely a bit rough, but a lot of fun
(but that can be said about every one on here ngl)
essentially, it is supposed to gather data on the water of the salton sea over a long period of time, as the water quality of the salton sea is always getting worse and something needs to be done
this one was one i did last summer
basically, the idea was that it would be able to be deployed to houses and autonomously detect radiation via its geiger counter and mounted sd card
just imagine a roomba with some stuff mounted to it
nonetheless, it was still defintiely a challenge, and yet a ton of fun
this one was one i did last winter
long story short, the linear accelerator labs over at stanford need to not use normal power over wire because it causes interference when trying to "observe" neutrons
so instead theyre using power over fiber, and our job was to make an apparatus to test the effectiveness of such a solution, as to test its viability
basically, instead of sending data over the fiber optic cables, we send a high powered laser that at the end of the cable has a specialized solar cell to convert the light energy to electrical energy
honestly, it was an amazing experience and I learned a lot from it, it was a wonderful challenge, and it was great working with my buddies on it too
